About Chapel Allerton Orthopaedic Hospital:

Chapel Allerton hospital is a purpose-built, stand-alone, elective orthopaedic surgery facility situated in the Chapeltown area of Leeds, approximately 3 miles to the north of the city centre. There are upwards of 3000 major surgical procedures performed here annually. A significant number of these are replacements of hip, knee, and shoulder joints. Additionally, other surgical procedures of hip, knee and shoulder, elbow, hand, spine, and ankle are performed. These procedures take place in four "laminar flow', clean air operating theatres.

Your Anaesthetic:

The majority of surgical procedures are performed under either general anaesthesia or spinal/epidural anaesthesia. Almost all patients (>90%), however, will benefit from one or more peripheral nerve blocks e.g. femoral, sciatic, popliteal, brachial plexus or a combination of these. A significant majority of our blocks are performed using ultrasound and we use a variety of ultrasound machines to effect these. Most patients having major joint surgery will also receive pain relief in the form of tablets and a PCA.
